Position Overview
The Virginia Farm Bureau Federation is seeking a dedicated Grain Intern to join our team. This remote position allows you to work from campus, providing an excellent opportunity to gain practical experience in the grain sector. As a Grain Intern, you will play a pivotal role in supporting our grain staff with various tasks related to risk management, market analysis, administrative duties, and financial record-keeping.
Key Responsibilities
Settlement Preparation
- Prepare Settlements: Process settlements for payment from the prior day's transactions, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
Risk Management Support
- Assist with Risk Management Activities: Collaborate with grain staff in managing Virginia Farm Bureau's (VFB) position related to the contracting and forward pricing of grain.
- Prompt Payments: Ensure prompt payment to producers for marketed grain and haulers for grain transportation.
Market Analysis and Information Dissemination
- Market Trend Analysis: Analyze available market information to identify trends within the grain sector.
- Information Dissemination: Share market insights with producer members and provide updated grain prices.
- Marketing Assistance: Offer marketing support to producer members through cash forward contracts.
Administrative and Technical Support
- Administrative Assistance: Support grain staff with tasks, software maintenance, records, and invoices.
- Record Review: Review and correct grain accounting records and reports.
- Database Maintenance: Maintain database records and generate weekly contract balance reports.
Financial Record-Keeping
- Financial Support: Assist grain and accounting staff in maintaining accurate financial records for the Grain Division.
- Software Assistance: Provide guidance on software use and ensure accurate record-keeping for reporting purposes.
- Technical Support: Offer technical support to the grain division manager for software functionalities.
Qualifications
- Educational Background: Pursuing a degree in Agriculture, Business, Finance, Economics, or a related field.
- Technical Skills: Proficiency in software and database management.
- Analytical Skills: Strong ability to analyze market data and identify trends.
- Communication Skills: Excellent ability to disseminate information clearly and effectively.
- Strong Attention to Detail: High level of accuracy in record-keeping and reporting.
