POSITION SUMMARY
Virginia Farm Bureau is looking for an Investigate any matter in the territory in which the Investigator is assigned. This includes fires, thefts, acts of vandalism, or any matter presented to the Investigator. The Investigator will also conduct investigations for all affiliated companies as requested by the Manager or Supervisor. The Investigator will obtain designations, if not already obtained, as Certified Fire Investigator and Certified Insurance Fraud Investigator within three years of employment.

LOCATION

This position is field based and requires traveling in the Eastern Region of Virginia.

Company auto provided with covered gas, insurance, and maintenance. As well as a company cell phone.

Position: Full Time, Fully Remote, Salaried opportunity with benefits Plan

Schedule: Monday - Friday 8:00am-4:30 pm

PRIMARY DUTIES

• Investigate fires for origin/cause as an expert, utilizing NFPA 921 as a guide
• Assist on auto theft investigations
• Assist on property theft investigations
• Investigate product failures for subrogation
• Investigate tenant fires for potential subrogation
• Testify in court as an expert in the field of Fire and Fraud Investigation
• Act as liaison between engineers, attorneys, law enforcement and fire personnel
• Assist in Countryway investigations

ADDITIONAL DUTIES

• Handle duties as assigned by Investigations Manager
• Maintain good working relationships with all departments within Virginia Farm Bureau
• Maintain good working relationship with law enforcement and fire personnel
• Attend training as assigned to maintain current designations

MINIMUM EDUCATIONAL/EXPERIENCE QUALIFICATIONS

• College degree in fire/police science or equivalent work experience
• Minimum five years Fire Science background
• Minimum five years as a Fire Investigator
• Minimum two years Insurance Industry background (preferred)
• Certified Insurance Fraud Investigator (CIFI) designation (or able to obtain within 3 years)
• Certified Fire Investigator (CFI) designation (or able to obtain within 3 years)
• Knowledge of the NFPA 921 requirements
• Fire Investigation, 1033 certified
• Court room testimony experience or class (if class needed, taken within two years of hiring)

MINIMUM SKILL QUALIFICATIONS

• Knowledge of insurance laws and contracts
• Knowledge of civil laws regarding material misrepresentation and fraud
• Proven analytical/problem solving skills
• High level of initiative/self -motivation
• Strong oral and written communication skills
• Flexibility in job duties and time management skills
